We had to choose one escape room, THE ESCAPE ROOM, to play in the city of London, which was what we could afford “tim£”-wise. After reading several reviews we though it was logical to choose Lance of Longinus by Time Run, as this was the room best valued in the city. We got there with the highest expectations.
That one is the most traditional room they have. The Celestial Chain is their other room where you can play a set of mini escape rooms and you spend 15 minutes in each one of them deciphering enigmas but scoring points instead of “escaping”. We didn’t get attracted by that stuff so we ended up choosing the most classic room.
From minute 1 the wow effect is present. The intro of the game master is a small theater play and that helped us to understand the story and the challenges that we were going to face. The sound effects, the video, the decor and the costumes of the game master made us get even higher expectations! And the game… well, what can we say.
The decoration is amazing, the time travel is guaranteed. But the fact that one of the locks failed, considering that we paid three times the price of the best rooms in Barcelona, left us with a very bad taste in mouth. At a certain point the game master had to slip us the hint that we couldn’t obtain under the door.
We understand that Lance of Longinus was about to close and that it might look a bit unkept. They explained that they are moving to a new space after April 2018, therefore their mind was probably more on the new room. However it’s inexcusable that something fails in a room that is supposed to be one of the best in London.
And when you get out… surprise! There are no traces of the brilliant game master from the beginning. A pragmatic, much less friendly girl was in charge of taking a picture but she didn’t explain anything about the plot, she blamed us for blocking the lock and… good bye.
That makes us think that the rooms in Barcelona are very competitive in playability, story, plots and game masters. We don’t give up! Lest’s try another escape room when we are back to London, let’s see what surprise it will bring us?
- The atmosphere, one of the best we have ever seen.
- Games that didn’t work, a huge disappointment considering the price we paid.
If you can escape from Lance of Longinus, you can complete your plan as follows:
13-18 Sidworth Street,Hackney, London E8 3SD
A huge venue capable of maintaining a welcoming and cozy atmosphere, a true English specialty. It’s the second Wringer + Mangle and their brunches look really good. We just had a drink (a tea, of course!) while we were waiting to play Time Run and the service was very kind. You feel like in your granny’s home.
191 Mare Street, Hackney, London
An ideal place to eat fusion dishes between Xian and Vietnam. It’s not as expensive as most of the restaurants in the heart of the city and you’ll get surprised by the variety of the dishes. The venue is rather small but it’s worth it in order to get in the mood before playing an escape room.
