The Bruna family had lived for several generations in a typical Catalan masia, or farmhouse. However, the Padrós family used wicked wiles to confiscate the property and throw the Brunas out of the house.
The dear Mrs. Núria Bruna wants to recover her family legacy, but she hasn’t found anyone who dares to enter the house… and manage to retrieve it. The spirits of the Padrós (that bloody family!) are still there, roaming at ease. We have an opportunity to succeed because, apparently, these souls in pain rest between 11 PM and midnight.
The Foodinis’ cowardly section resisted until the last moment to go to this escape room thinking it was scary but nothing further from the truth. It is about solving a mystery in the middle of a family drama, with touches of Catalan custom and manners… and some comedy too.
The story is logic and flows pretty well, although we got stucked at some point. The puzzles are very well-woven. You will enjoy a lot this room if you have Catalan friends or relatives. Núria will remind you of the typical tieta or auntie, her phrases and gestures are very old-fashioned and typical from Catalonia. However, you do not have to worry, the game can be played in Catalan, Spanish or English.
The decoration is simple but it is very well done. Even when you are in the center of the city, you will feel that you are in a farmhouse in the middle of the countryside. You would find some things that are present in the most traditional Catalan homes, starting with the Déu vos guard sign (somewhat similar to God bless you) at the entrance or the farcell fabric.
It is important to mention that, although the experience is 90 minutes, you will only have 1 hour to solve the puzzles in the room. The rest of the time will be used to give you a great welcome and an even better farewell. The game master, Marina, is a descendant of the real-life Bruna’s. Her performance is really great.
We want to give a special mention to the Can Bruna website because they have thought of everything and it includes a lot of options to spend the whole day in the city, including parks, excursions… and places to eat!
In short, this escape is a pa amb tomàquet (bread with tomato) with good fuet (typical Catalan sausage), accompanied with wine drunk directly from the porró (glass wine jar). Salut… i força al canut! (Health and wealth!)
- The immersion in a typical Catalan farmhouse.
- The game master role play.
- The web is very complete.
- The trip, but if you organize well the day to take advantage of the surroundings… it will be worth it!
And if you manage to kick out the Padrós from Can Bruna you can complete your plan as follows:
Torrons Garcia Sirvent
Carrer Carme 3, Vilafranca del Penedès
Seasonal artisan products specialists. In winter they offer Christmas nougats, but in summer you will be torn between ordering ice cream or horchata (tiger nut milk). Or, why not, combine both and have a cubanito!
Barri la Garrofa, 1. carretera C-243a km 6
To set the mood before reaching Can Bruna we chose a country restaurant. La Garrofa is specialized in BBQ meat, each one of us chose a different cut, but we all picked delicious and highly recommended potatoes al caliu (jacket potatoes) as a side. The desserts are homemade and very good.
The place is very big and the atmosphere is familiar. We were among the first to enter and had a great time, but from what we have been told, it can get a bit noisy.
If you are looking for a place closer to the escape, in the Can Bruna website you will find different options. The tieta Núria was a Foodini before the concept was even invented!
